Louisiana Golf Association Unveils Russell Gaudin Louisiana Junior Amateur Championship Trophy
The Louisiana Golf Association (LGA) has introduced the Russell Gaudin Trophy as the official trophy for the Louisiana Junior Amateur Championship.
In Lafayette, LA, the winner of the 67th Louisiana Junior Amateur Championship was awarded a remarkable new trophy. The LGA has introduced the Russell Gaudin Louisiana Junior Amateur Championship Trophy, which the state junior amateur champion will hold for one calendar year following their victory. Named in honor of Russell Gaudin from Baton Rouge, this custom pewter Colonial Cup was crafted by the Oldani Brothers Company in Connecticut.
Russell Gaudin, who won the first and second Louisiana Junior Amateur Championships in 1958 and 1959, is celebrated through this trophy, which will perpetually honor his legacy and support for amateur golf in Louisiana. Last month, LGA Vice President Phillip Frazier, Executive Director Logan Ray, and LGA Director of Championship Operations Jacob Oaks presented the trophy to Gaudin at his Baton Rouge home. Gaudin, a distinguished amateur golfer, expressed humility at the honor. Having his name engraved on the state’s most prestigious junior amateur trophy is a significant accolade, and the LGA is thrilled for Gaudin to share in this special moment.
The Louisiana boys junior amateur champion, in addition to receiving the Russell Gaudin Junior Amateur Championship trophy, earned an exemption into the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, from July 22-27. They also received fully exempt status through the AJGA and an automatic invitation to join Team Louisiana in the 2024 Junior River Cup matches, along with a $500 prize.
